WRSystems was founded in 1983, based on principles of integrity, quality, teamwork and above all else, a commitment to the customer's needs. Since that time, the company has grown from a small, two-person systems integration firm to a highly respected Innovative Systems Engineering product development and support services firm with almost 300 employees. A 1998 graduate of the Small Business Administration 8(a) program, WRSystems received multiple "Fast 50" growth awards as it expanded its customer base to include various Federal Government and Department of Defense agencies and Fortune 500 corporations. With two divisions, Engineering Services Division (ESD) and Intelligence and Business Solutions (IBS), supporting both government and commercial contracts, WRSystems currently maintains offices in Fairfax, VA, and Norfolk, VA.
Differentiators in the area of Quality, Technological Innovation, and sound Software Engineering Processes are based on a Quality Management System (QMS) - documented in the company's Quality Manual - which incorporates a disciplined approach to processes such as Project Management, Quality Assurance, and Systems Engineering. The company's Quality Management System (QMS) incorporates Industry best practices and standards such as Carnegie Mellon's Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and ISO 9001:2008. A corporate TQM philosophy has led to extraordinary employee retention and career development. The company is registered to ISO 9001:2008 and holds a CMMI Level 3 Rating.
Personnel Support
To support our personnel, our managers function as employee advocates. Managers ensure that the employees have the tools, training, environment and encouragement they need to provide the best support to the customers, and to provide the employees with career paths and challenging opportunities during their careers at WRSystems. On a more personal level, managers also host casual, open-forum social events for their employees.
Employee Recognition
We are delighted to be able to recognize our employees for their achievements. We have three performance-based award programs: formal recognition, on-the-spot, and Employee of the Quarter. We recognize recipients via all-staff meetings and all-staff e-mails, with monetary rewards and certificates of achievement.
We also award gifts to employees who reach their 5-, 10-, 15-, 20- and 25-year anniversaries with the company.
Our new-work bonus pays employees a percentage of the gross amount of new business they bring in and our employee-referral bonus encourages employees to bring in qualified people.
Employee Feedback
Employee feedback is one of the keys to our success. We gauge employee satisfaction through on-line surveys, employee suggestions through our web-based Opportunity for Improvement program, and meetings between managers and employees. Our 360-degree appraisal system allows employees to provide feedback to their managers.
Flexible Work Schedules
We believe in work/life balance through flexibility. This flexibility is based on our belief that family is important. Many employees opt for earlier hours so that they can be home to greet their children after school, or later hours to see them to the bus. Some need time to look in on their parents, and to take them to doctors. Our sick leave policy provides paid time off for employees to care for themselves or their immediate family members, including their parents. Employees can bring their children to work to relieve the stress of emergency child-care situations, and to promote family bonding outside of the home. Employees can also bring their pets to work. At least two people are trained to perform a particular function, alleviating some of the stress involved with taking a day off without negatively impacting a project. We offer new parents part-time schedules and the ability to work from home. We offer leaves of absence. Flexible work schedules enable employees to volunteer in the community. Employees have been authorized to telecommute from home based on individual family circumstances.
Family is Important at WRSystems
To celebrate a birth, we send a personalized baby blanket. When there is a medical emergency, long-term illness, or a death in an employee's family, we send a plant, fruit or flowers, follow up with visits (sometimes with food), and allow the employees the time they need to get back on their feet and back to work. During the holidays, each employee receives a grocery store gift card for purchase of trimmings for the family holiday table. Routinely, we host facility tours for our employees, their relatives and friends so that folks can stay informed about the new, exciting, and groundbreaking projects that are in progress.
Employees are Important at WRSystems
To ensure our employees know how much we care and support them, we also offer paid leave time for vacations, illness and bereavement. We have set up a leave donation pool to assist those employees who may not have a personal reserve available; all WRSystems employees may donate their earned leave for usage by others in their time of need.
Employee Functions
During the year, WRSystems management encourages participation in many employer-sponsored functions. These functions include summer picnics, company outings to theme parks and ball games, holiday parties, pot lucks and cook-offs. We also sponsor many local and national charities by having employee contests, whether it’s a pumpkin-carving contest or a golf tournament. The funds raised through employee participation are set aside for others in need.
Professional Advancement & Training
Our mentor/protégé program provides training for employees who have been selected for advancement to management. Human Resources and managers also assist employees with their career paths. We offer college tuition reimbursement to encourage employees to improve their skills or just learn something new. The courses don't have to be job-related; we just encourage learning. We fund skill-based and workforce development seminars and courses. We offer salary increases and bonuses for completion of such certifications as Project Management Institute (PMI) and Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Employees with expertise in a field often volunteer to hold classes during lunch hours to help others develop new skills or interests. Classes run the gamut from art (painting and wire sculpture) to fiber optics installation and cabling; participation helps create camaraderie and encourages personal growth.
WRSystems strives to be a place where people are happy to go every day because they can grow professionally and have fun at the same time. We foster a supportive and collaborative work environment in which individuals feel they are part of a genuine, winning team working together to make our customers successful. We hire our employees with the hope that they will have careers with us, and that their children will have careers with us.
At WRSystems we foster a work environment where employees are rewarded for developing and delivering creative solutions that consistently exceed client expectations.
