Promise Hospital of San Diego is the area's premier Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). Promise Hospital’s interdisciplinary team approach to treatment is led by a select group of dedicated local physicians who are committed to providing quality patient care. Our nurses, therapists, nutritionists, and case managers work with our physicians to insure our patients get personalized, compassionate care in the most efficient and appropriate manner. Each patient's treatment plan is individually designed to meet their specific goals in order to reach their maximum quality of life. At Promise Hospital our staff provides on-going communication and education to patients and their families throughout their stay. We understand that patients and their families are important members of the treatment team, and that building good relationships will enhance the healing process.

One of our goals is to make the referral process quick and easy. Our admissions department works closely with a patient's physician as well as the other healthcare providers within the continuum of care to make the patient’s transition to the LTACH a smooth process. Promise Hospital’s team of area clinical liaisons will provide an on-site evaluation of the patient as quickly as possible to determine if they meet criteria for our unique level of care. We know that time is valuable and every minute counts when treatment is needed.

Promise Hospital of San Diego is JCAHO accredited, Medicare certified, and licensed as an acute care hospital. We are also an approved provider for most health insurance plans.

The 100-bed, 70,000-square-foot hospital was purchased as University Medical Center and renamed Promise Hospital of San Diego October 2006. The Promise name reflects a commitment to patients, physicians, hospital staff, and all of San Diego and Imperial counties.

Promise Hospital of San Diego Behavioral Health Unit
The Behavioral Health Unit at Promise Hospital of San Diego provides comprehensive psychiatric services for adults 18 yrs and older who are suffering from a mental disorder. Symptoms may include, but not limited to anxiety, agitation, hallucinations, sleep disturbance, loss of appetite, isolation, hallucinations, and bizarre behavioral.

Promise Hospital of San Diego is dedicated to meeting the health care needs of its community and residents of San Diego surrounding communities. The Behavioral Health Unit works with its medical staff to provide a continuum of high quality health care and life enhancement services and strives for excellence in all aspects of services offered.

In carrying out its mission, the Behavioral Health Unit at Promise Hospital of San Diego will emphasize personalized care; manage its human and financial resources in a professional, prudent and just manner; seek to be an early adopter of new, proven technology; explore and develop innovative approaches to health care delivery; conduct appropriate educational programs for staff and community; and nurture its tradition of values, caring, and excellence.

Program
The Program provides 24-hour-a-day intensive treatment for patients with acute psychiatric disorders, and cognitive impairment. People in acute psychiatric crisis urgently require a safe environment, a structured and supportive social milieu, intensive psychiatric, and physiological therapeutic intervention. The Program combines these elements into a unique and effective treatment program. Every aspect of unit life is intended to assist patients in achieving their optimal level of functioning.

The unit's physical design provides a safe and appropriately sensory stimulating environment for all patients and space for therapeutic and recreational activities. The Program is furnished to provide a comfortable atmosphere and to encourage interaction among patients and staff.

The interdisciplinary team works under the direction of the psychiatrist. Additional physicians may be consulted, as needed, for special medical needs of the patients. The treatment team provides each patient entering the Program with a comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment and an individually tailored plan for treatment. As clinically indicated, this treatment plan may include intensive individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, appropriate medication and additional educational and skill building activities.
