Overview
For over 20 years, Cultural Care Au Pair’s childcare and cultural exchange program has offered families flexible, live-in childcare with a unique international perspective.

Au pair childcare is a unique alternative to day care or nannies—one that is growing in popularity with American families. Au pairs offer the benefits of in-home, one-to-one childcare coverage without the high cost! They are live-in childcare providers, ages 18-26 years old, from over 20 different countries. Au pairs arrive with a legal one-year visa and the opportunity to extend their stay with a family for up to one additional year. 

The au pair “program” is regulated by the U.S. Department of State, which recognizes Cultural Care Au Pair as an official program sponsor. This means Cultural Care Au Pair takes care of screening the au pairs, helping them obtain their visas and providing insurance, training and transportation. A host family’s only responsibility is to interview candidates and choose the au pair who best fits their family’s needs, personality and lifestyle.

Once an au pair arrives, families can look forward to:

  • An average weekly cost of just $345 (per family, not per child) for 45 hours of care

  • The flexibility to customize those hours to a schedule they decide

  • Help with household duties related to the children (including laundry, room pick-up and meal preparation)

  • The convenience and peace of mind that comes with live-in help

  • A local childcare coordinator (LCC) to provide local support during their year

    We put Kids First
    Caring for kids: It’s not just our business, it’s our way of life. 

    Helping children in need has been a priority for Cultural Care Au Pair since our inception in 1989. In 2004, we created an official philanthropic program called Kids First with the hope of focusing our efforts on groups of at-risk children in select countries from which we recruit our au pairs. The Cultural Care Kids First Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit foundation to expand our efforts and help more children around the world.

    Our goals for Kids First have been and continue to be:

  • Helping children in need around the world

  • Giving back to the home countries of our au pairs

  • Teaching au pairs the American tradition of volunteerism

  • Promoting global awareness to our host parents and children


    • Our local childcare coordinators, with the help of au pairs and host families and staff, were already fundraising for local charities around the US. We decided that focusing on one partner would give us a common goal to work towards. Our initial partner was Orphanage #63 in Moscow—home to 56 children with no chance or adoption and who needed our help.

    When we saw the impact of our efforts and how enthusiastically everyone embraced Kids First, we expanded our mission to Brazil, South Africa and the United States.

    All donations go to the children and are matched by Cultural Care Au Pair.     Dedicated Support Team

    LCCs are part of an international support network. They work closely with their Program Director and Recruitment and Training Director for guidance, support, idea sharing, and more! When you are hired you will be trained by staff through an interactive training platform, after which you will meet up in person for a Weekend Workshop. During this Weekend Workshop—held in a nearby city—you will get to know each other better and work together to continue to learn about the program and role. You will also meet staff at meetings held each year. We've seen many strong bonds develop between our staff, LCCs and sales representatives through these events. Everyone looks forward to spending even more time together.
