David C. Cook traces its history back to 1875, when David C. Cook began printing tracts for use in his Sunday school classes in Chicago. From these simple beginnings, CCM has become one of the leading publishers of Sunday school and Christian materials with offices in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.
At Cook we are more than a business, more than products and services. We help Christians embrace wholeness of life in Christ, and develop the gifts God has given them.
To encourage the acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal Savior and to aid, promote, and contribute to the teaching and putting into practice His two great commands-the love of God and of each other-by creating and disseminating Christian communications materials and services to people throughout the world.
We value each other by giving honor through our words and actions, and by committing to each person's success. Taking great care as we select those who desire to be at Cook and have the right abilities and gifts, we then work together to increase our skills and capacities in order to more effectively fulfill our mission.
Foundations
We believe that people are our greatest resource and that each person is gifted to make a positive contribution. Because we are made in the image of God and are loved by Him unconditionally, we strive to express this same kind of love towards others. It matters how we treat each other, showing honor and respect; it matters if there is vitality in all areas of our lives--physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally; it matters if there is a measure of "balance" between our work, our play, our family and our personal ministry expressions; and it matters if our relationships are healthy. It takes a mutual commitment and perseverance to create an environment in which each person will experience the joy of making significant contributions.
Expressions
• We want to multiply God-given talent. Therefore, we need to identify talents in people, let them grow by doing, and encourage professional growth and continuous learning.
• We commit to integrity in all of our relationships. We can be counted on to be truth-seekers as well as truth-speakers.
• We quickly offer forgiveness when we have been wronged and claim responsibility and seek forgiveness when we have wronged others.
• We work together to clearly understand our goals and our mutual expectations and to give feedback.
• We recognize achievement--applauding success and learning together from our failures.
• We search for ways to develop and maintain a "family" feel--part of this involves looking for ways to include our own families in CCM events.
• Being a part of the Cook family means we "share in care" through mutual participation in different CCM benefit programs and in the stewardship of our resources.
As a nonprofit organization, Cook is committed to distributing culturally relevant materials as well as developing indigenous Christian publishers around the world. As a result, Cook materials have been translated into over 120 different languages and are currently being used across the globe
