Service Manager

Job Description

General Summary


The role of the service manager is to manage and direct all service department activities of a National Tire and Battery (NTB) retail store engaged in selling tires and related automotive parts and mechanical services. He/she is responsible for developing and directing a team of general service technicians and mechanics who exemplify the highest level of quality and customer service.  This position ensures compliance to all Tire Kingdom’s policies and procedures for automotive services.

Primary Responsibilities


· Meets or exceeds NTB’s performance standards for quality and speed of service to our customers

· Insures continuous implementation and enforcement of NTB’s policies and procedures

· Develops and directs a skilled and cohesive team of mechanics and general service technicians

· Evaluates performance of general service technicians and mechanics

· Exercises strong, fair, and consistent leadership with all employees

· Delegates authority and subsequent ownership of those functions delegated, as appropriate for the position

· Builds and maintains a team effort consistent with the goals of the company

· Ensures compliance to all OSHA, M.A.P., State and Hazmat regulations


The service manager is responsible for the administration of, but not limited to the following:

· Ensures that proper diagnostic procedures are followed and that recommendations are correct, properly explained, and correctly priced

· Performs proper handling of warranty and adjustment procedures

· Adheres to procedures for work orders and invoices

· Insures review of all work orders for instructions, pulling, and staging parts before vehicle is brought into service bay

· Insures that every vehicle has been inspected for needed services

· Insures that customers are satisfied with the services performed

· Schedules employees and assigns work

· Monitors workflow and keeps sales staff appraised of waiting time

· Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations

· Enforces all safety and workers compensation policies

· Assists the management staff in receiving and warehousing of products and maintenance of tires and parts inventory

· Provides shop and equipment maintenance, as well as maintenance of total retail facility

· Keeps the service department clean and enforces the dress code in accordance with the Tire Kingdom policies and procedures

· Maintains cleanliness and care of every customers vehicle

· Assists on the sales counter as needed; preparation and presentation of estimates

· Protects the company assets, cash, inventory, equipment, systems, and documents

· Follows all safety practices as outlined in policy and procedures

· Performs other duties as assigned



Job Requirements

  • Education & Experience


    Education: 

    · A.S.E. certifications preferred

    · Minimum age requirement of 18 years

    · High School diploma preferred

    Experience:            

    · Has a proven history of successful management expertise including but not limited to: leadership and motivational ability, time management and organization skills, training, coaching and counseling

    · Has the ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of all general service technician and mechanic positions; including experience in the use of all equipment, gauges, and tools normally associated with diagnosis, installation and repair of mechanical services, and tire related services

    · Has strong service sales and expense control ability

    · Possesses the ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks

    · Possesses a valid in-state driver’s license

    · Has customer service orientation and a high level of professional integrity

    · Has the ability to work a flexible retail schedule including weekends

    · Has the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages

    · Possesses strong telephone, verbal, and written communication skills
