The Licensed Physical Therapist plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs for patients to restore function, relieve pain and prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body part.
*1) Administers physical therapy in accordance with American Physical Therapy Association ethical standards, Texas State licensure rules, SAH hospital policies and procedures and other applicable regulatory requirements.
*2) Documents diagnosis of patients and takes all precautions for observing indications and contraindications.
*3) Maintains accurate records of treatment in accordance with departmental policies.
*4) Administers re-evaluations and assessments ordered and documents thoroughly and promptly.
*5) Evaluates patient for mobility, strength, balance, gait, endurance, pain or wound needs.
*6) As noted in the medical record, applies the modality such as ultrasound, hot packs, cold packs, cervical and lumbar traction, paraffin, massage, hydrotherapy and electrical stimulation.
*7) Prepares patient for treatment by proper dress and position.
*8) Communicates with attending physician for clarification or elaboration of prescribed orders.
*9) Observes and evaluates treatment effect by updating goals as necessary; recommending changes to physician, discussing patient's condition and treatment course with physician; and participating in patient discharge planning and follow-up care.
*10) Administers evaluations and assessments ordered; documents thoroughly and properly.
*11) Demonstrates knowledge and skills in treatment of general medical patients including orthopedics, cardiac rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation and wound care.
*12) Exhibits knowledge and skill for treatment of general medical geriatrics, adults, pediatrics and adolescents.
*13) Utilizes the computerized Meditech system for Magic Office and documentation.
*14) Documents patient education according to department policy and procedure.
*15) Participates in Hospital-wide quality process improvement.
*16) Maintains current Physical Therapy license and CPR certification.
*17) Directs the activities of therapy tech and Physical Therapy Assistant according to departmental policy and procedures, licensure guidelines.
*18) Participates in student education program and clinical education.
*19) Responds to Hospital codes and performs duties accordingly.
*20) Always employs universal precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.
*21) Demonstrate understanding of HCA's and 'Patients First' safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
*22) Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
