Mechanical Design Engineer

My client, an established manufacturing company in Cannon Falls, is seeking a Design Engineer to lead new product development of specialized materials handling equipment. 

• Use Advanced CAD techniques (Inventor) in the design of cost effective products that meet/exceed desired specifications.
• Create drawings, schematics, bills of materials and other documentation to fully define the products as assigned.
• Work directly with the model shop and tooling engineers during the development of component parts to achieve the highest quality vs. cost ratios with a minimum of down stream tooling revisions or component part revisions. Working closely with manufacturing, thoroughly evaluate first piece parts and provide appropriate feedback to the project and tooling engineers.
• Work “hand-in-hand" with marketing to identify, design and introduce new product solutions for opportunities supporting this project.
• Perform and/or direct in-house testing as necessary to ensure products will satisfy all applicable specifications and requirements.
• Closely interact with Manufacturing Engineering during the early stages of product design; assist Manufacturing in the ramp up of a new product; design fixtures and downstream components to increase productivity, eliminate failures and assure desired quality levels.
• Function as a core member of appropriate new product development teams, effectively interfacing cross-functionally.

• BS in Mechanical Engineeirng
• 2+ years of hands-on product design/engineering experience preferred
• Solids Modeling CAD, preferably Inventor
• Understanding and use of various product materials
• Manufacturing processes
• Mechanical creativity
