BASIC FUNCTION

This position has overall responsibility of the engineering design, test and application of all generator set controls and accessories, whether developed in-house or procured from a third party. Technical scope includes knowledge of digital & analog circuit design, microprocessor design, software design, test methodology as well as an understanding of customer/application requirements as they pertain to generator set system control and communication. Supervise and guide product engineers in the development of products for customer applications. Recommend and search out resources, equipment and personnel to meet engineering development work load.

Position requires an understanding of generator set controls competition and costs as well as the requirement to formulate and implement a Kohler Power Systems controller strategy that supports a technical leadership position in the industry. Marketing scope includes voice of the customer research, competitive analysis, market specifications for new products and integral involvement with product launch and training.

Position requires a highly self-motivated individual with a sense of urgency toward project completion and driven to maintain engineering excellence. Work within a cross functional environment and be responsible for the tracking, knowledge, progress and awareness of development projects and customer orders. Will be responsible to recognize the need for new engineering guidelines and be able to successfully implement change and provide technical leadership.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide supervision and leadership for activities associated with product developments. Drive resolution of cross-functional issues. Review major problems and take necessary action consistent with company policies and procedures to resolve them. Inform and consult with superiors on problems and other adverse developments or conditions.
2. Identify and implement new and improve current development process standards and tests and successfully implement necessary changes.
3. Maintain awareness of competitive products, innovations, and technological advances in electronics, processes, and electrical design throughout industry for possible impact on and application to products of the division in order to leverage our competitive advantages and exploit competitive weaknesses to gain market share.
4. Establish Product/Engineering Specifications with input from Generator Set Product Line Managers. Assist in customer presentations and provide designs responsive to unique customer requirements.
5. Lead systems architecture definition and ensure total system integration and commonality (hardware & software) across and between controls, gensets, ATS, switchgear and other electrical products as necessary.
6. Provide electronic & software engineering technical leadership.
7. Work with vendors to resolve technical issues.
8. Supervise and direct engineers to complete projects. Plan, budget and schedule both direct and support resources to execute defined projects. Ensure that objectives are met in an optimum manner with maximum financial efficiency.
9. Integrate and administer the Electronics Lab & Design Engineering.
10. In conjunction with Generator Set Product Line Managers, develop and maintain product line portfolio, product plans and product road maps and ensure consistent hardware and software platforms across all product lines.
11. Identify & develop relationships with 3rd party design resources for use on projects as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
